  1. I watched the Confucius's life animated and John Green's course. Confucius was born to young mother in the period of Warring States. He spent his life spreading wisdom and preaching about he five most important relationships and if everyone became peaceful and respected one another China would end its period of pandemonium. He died thinking that he failed himself but rulers used his teachings as structure for their subjects.

  2. I watched the video about Confucius and his life. I learned that he was born in the period of the Warring States. I also learned that he preached about the five important relationships that was to be peaceful and respectful to one another, to the end of the period of Pandemonium. As Confucius got older, he died thinking that he failed his rulers, but instead, his rulers used his teachings as a structure for their subjects.

    1. I also learned that China during this time of age that they have adopted the concept of zero and adopted the concept of algebra as well. I also learned that they invented moveable gunpowder which was a very useful weapon for the Chinese. Chinese people were also very talented because they used to make many figurines, preferably camels and horses.

  3. I learned a lot of things about the dynasties which in some ways were surprising. I did not know that many inventions such as the compass, gun powder, etc. were invented in China thousands of years ago. The dynasties prospered with technical innovation. I also watched the video about the life of Confucius and learned that he was born in a time in which China had many internal and external conflicts. He tried to stop the chaos with his teachings and ideas. Though he thought he had failed, his teachings are still alive.

  5. I started by first watching the john green crash course “2,000 years of Chinese history! The Mandate of Heaven and Confucius”. I learned that Confucius was born at the same time the period of the Warring States took place, and he wanted to spread a religion of peace and wisdom. He believed that he could make people believe that there is still good in this world and that it would end the bloodshed. At the time the people did not grasp the idea, but later on the people picked up on the idea and the philosophy began to spread. Some people argued that Buddhism, Confucianism and Daoism are not a religion because they do not have central figures like we for example have Allah. Some people viewed it as a philosophy or a way of life rather than a religion as they don’t have a god but rather a teacher.
The Chinese were also gifted inventors. They invented gunpowder which changed the world forever and brought new technology; they also invented the compass and made the first paper money during the Song Dynasty.

  6. I I started off like many others with the John Green video about the mandate of heaven and Confucius. I chose to this because I found that this specific, profound Chinese scholar was mentioned almost every time the history of China was involved. Confucius was a scholar who preached about the philosophy of ethics and manners. During his time, no one accepted his way of thinking and was eventually kicked out. However later on he became a well remembered Chinese scholar. Today Confucianism is thought of somewhat a religion like Daosim or in others perspective a way of living or thinking.

  7. I watched John Greens video and learned much about the Mandate of Heaven and Confucius. I learned that he viewed life differently than other people due to the fact that he wanted peace. Though his ideas were not accepted by the Chinese, they were later honored and even had other philosophies based off of it. I always knew China was a center of innovation...but when i learned about the inventions they made early in history. Not only that but they encouraged education which was very important.

  8. I watched the video and learned many things such as the mandate of heaven and Confucius. The first thing I learned that he was born during a war in China. From his surroundings he set out to teach how to live peacefully and in harmony from his wisdom which sooner became a religion. Another thing I learned was that the Chines were very smart and which led them to be very successful innovations. A few things they made was the gunpowder, the magnetic compass which is still used today just like paper money.

  9. the animated life of Confucius helped me understand the role he played in the forming on modern China. He was a good natured man with no tyrannical intentions. He was very wise and preached his views until his very last breath on his death bed. A very famous quote he said was "A virtue in a hunger…a hunger for what is true and right, and to love your fellow human beings." Basically, he was a very influential thinker.

Chinese Dynasties "Vogue" by Madonna was a very silly song created by the singer Madonna, described all of Ancient China's successful dynasties such as the Xia, Shang, Zhou, Han and others. It very briefly listed the accomplishments/events that occurred while China was developing like the building of the Great Wall, certain invasions and famous poets.
