  1. I really enjoyed the field trip. We got to see the door of the Kaaba and read ancient calligraphy of stones. I had fun teaching the tour guides and learning from them. I got a closer look at my culture that i had no idea about. I noticed how much cultural borrowing from civilizations such as Rome, Greece, and many others. The use of stone and carving was very important and the designs intricate and unique. Overall I had a good time while still learning.

  2. Visiting the Asian Art Museum and looking at the various artifacts that were part of the exhibition, Roads of Arabia, was like viewing my past and the principles and values of my ancestors. I noticed a lot of cultural diffusion in the clay statues and carvings. A little bit of Rome and Greece found its way in to the history of the Arabian peninsula. I am, without a doubt, going back to visit the exhibition and hopefully learn new, interesting facts.

  3. With a mindset of this trip being "one of those old educational museums", I wasn't that excited to visit the Asian Art Museums. My perception changed after today. I was astonished at how much of a rich culture Arabia has that I was unaware of. The clay statues, 24 carat gold jewelry, Kabaah door made of gold and silver, and preserved tombstones of a destructed graveyard told historians much more that a pretty artifacts. I enjoyed discussions with the tour guides, and trying to read the writings carved into stone and calligraphy illustrated in paintings. It is sure to gain the interest of others and lure them to the greatness of Islam and the beauty along with it.

  4. I thought that the museum was very interesting because it had lots of information Arabia that I didn't know of. Just like when the tour guide showed us a few preserved tombstones. I also thought the carvings were very interesting. They were very clean and neat and also exact. I also didn't know that rocks were a valuable tool because it was used for cutting, sharpening, and carving. I also think that the Arabic Calligraphy also looked interested because it was much different than the normal Arabic writing. In the end, I thought that the trip was very fun and interesting.

  5. I really enjoyed our class visit to the Asian Art Museum to see the new exhibit on the Roads of Arabia. One of the artifacts I really found intriguing was the golden mask of the six year old girl, it was also found with a glove; both made of solid twenty four carat gold. We also got to see the doors of the Kabah, which I found amazing. It had writing on it and was crafted out of bronze, silver and gold also enjoyed the tour guides, and they told us the stories about the black stone and the one about the king’s dream and I never knew that the black stone had writing on it, which was a new fact for me. I also felt engaged with the tour which I liked. Khala Kim also pointed out that there was a lot of cultural diffusion, which I didn’t realize before when I looked at the exhibit for the first time.

  6. I adored our middle school field to the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco because of all the interesting and somewhat bizarre artifacts. One that stood out to me was the ancient Arabian sculptures of a man in his tomb. One of his special features that our tour guide pointed out was that he had big bulging eyes and he only wore a belt around his waist. They were made of big blocks of basalt and the sculptures were rectangle shaped. Another fascinating artifact was the little girls gold face mask and single glove. She was most likely a princess who died at a very young age. It just intrigued me how such a young child can have such extravagant possessions buried with her in her tomb. I overall enjoyed this trip to The Asian Art Museum in San Francisco and would be very pleased and excited if we went to more field trips of this type.

  8. I have been to the Asian Art Museum before. And when hearing about this field trip I expected it to be the same experience. Our tour started off with two interesting stories told to us by an elderly man named Ed. I was reluctant to start looking around the museum, thinking the tour guide would blabber on about facts I already knew. Yet I was proved wrong, our tour guide, Shelia Dowell, was very interactive. She carefully explained each and every artifact. With Khala Kim being our chaperon, she would remind us about our previous lesson and how it tied back to the exhibits. My favorite exhibit was the one on the six year old girls possessions. She belonged to a wealthy family, who buried her in a gold mask and gloves. There were also beautiful pieces of jewelry she was buries with. Now when reading a lesson or hearing a story on ancient Arabia, I will undoubtedly be able to picture it in my mind. This exhibit is important because it was the land in which Islam was born into. This trip altered my view on museums. Even though I have been here many times before, I would love to come again back to visit their other exhibits.

  9. I enjoyed the field trip a lot. I learned a couple of new things. We also got to see many interesting things such as the door of the Kaaba and read ancient calligraphy on stones in Arabic. The field trip taught me interesting things. For example, in the beginning, a man named Ed (I think) told us two stories. The first one I already new and the second I learned that day. I was a very interesting story. I enjoyed the field trip a lot and thank the school for letting us go.

  10. The Asian Art Museum first seemed pretty boring at first. But when we went there it was quite interesting. I expected to bombarded with facts that I had already learned about in my previous years, but again I was wrong. Our tour guide let us explain and we both took turns to talk about Arabia's rich culture. It was also amazing to see many artifacts that belonged to the wealthy people of Arabia. My favorite artifact was the 6 year old girl's gold possessions that was burred with her.
I was also surprised that she was buried with a beautiful gold necklace that emeralds, pears and amethyst gems. This school field trip was enjoyable and contained many new experiences, one being enjoying a museum. The others revolving around the priceless artifacts. This trip was truly something to never forget.
