  1. I thought the documentary was very interesting even for a believer because there are different customs that they do like wearing colorful masks and etc.I got a little upset when they said the prophet and not mohammed (sws) but I can cope with it because this is not meant for muslims but it is meant for non muslims that want to learn about Islam .

  2. Islam: Empire of faith really interested me because it explained the spread of Islam in great depth. It also talked about achievements how the Muslims were great merchants and produced fine fabrics. I also watched a video from the website on the spread of Islam in Mecca and in my opinion it was a good wrap up of what we learned.

  3. Unfortunately,I didn't have time to watch the 2 part hour-long documentary, but did visit the site. I found it a good reference to muslims and non-muslims alike. It seemed like a more standard based site, like our textbook. The geography of the Islamic world, spread of Islam in Mecca,as well as in Baghdad, Granada, and the different Islamic sects videos were the ones I watched. I found them quite appealing from a non-muslim's perspective, but realized that there was a frequent use of many islamic terms such as imam and madhab, but I couldn't perceive why. Additionally, the vocabulary list in the beginning of the page would without doubt be helpful to someone who hasn't studied Islam yet.To add not the positive list, I thought that the lenghty description on the geography of the modern and ancient Islamic World was a great aid to the hereinafter text/information. Overall, this was a very obliging site, and would be a top referral to non-muslims.

    2. I watched both parts of the documentary and found it very inspiring. The speaker respectfully describes the beauty of the religion and how the arabs realized the trueness and divinity of Islam. Differentiating it from other films about Islam was a word in the title itself.Islam:Empire of faith was mainly adressing the Islamic Empire as a whole, rather than just the religion. All in all, this documentary was enlightening for Muslims and Non-Muslims alike.

  4. I thought that this documentary was very useful as well as very helpful because the narrator described the spread of Islam in depth. I think that this is a great way to show people who are unaware of Islam about Islam due to the description and detail that was put in this documentary. The documentary mentioned the spread of Islam, our tradition, as well as our culture. If someone is curious about Islam, I think that curious non-muslims should visit this website because of all the detail this documentary had. I also thought the website was full of interesting facts! I thought that it mentioned most of the important facts about Islam, as well as what happened in Islam.

  5. I found the website very beneficial for new muslims. It has lots of information on Islam. The list in the beginning with many islamic terms helped and anyone that doesnt know arabic or isn't a muslim can understand. The website also included the geography. I have to admit I don't know much about the population and locations of all muslim countries so it was very useful to me.

  7. As people interested in Islam ask numerous questions regarding the basic faiths, not always will they find an answer. The website and videos I visited and viewed gave the accurate presentation on what Islam, as a religion, is and its basic belief system. Additionally, the authors and directors included references from the Holy Quran and the Sunnah, which are considered reliable and sacred texts. So as to demonstrate the spread of Islam, a map, shown on the website, was designed. Moreover, essential questions and important vocabulary were listed on the site. As I found the vocabulary list slightly helpful (due to the lack of word translation and definition), I believe the essential questions are a fabulous way to aid students and others by allowing them to ponder more on the origins of Islam. These sources could be viewed by students, Muslims interested in learning more about their religion, and people of other faiths.

  8. I couldn't watch all of the documentary on YouTube, but I skimmed through it and saw few of the interviews. I really liked how they started the intro with Adaan (unlike the ‘normal’ media). The professors weren’t being biased and were trying to look at everything through the prophet’s perspective, which helped them infer how he might have felt. But what cracked me up was the lady who was talking about the crusaders. She was talking like she was going to be man hunted by the crusaders. The documentary was trying to give a message that during the medieval times, Muslim-made goods were the finest, greatest, and expensive (at a time when barbarians ruled most of the 3 continents). This documentary was very unique, and it reminds me of the 3D dome movie we watched in the Tech Museum about Muslim culture in 5th Grade. I should and will definitely try my best to watch the whole documentary (when I find time).

  9. I really liked this website because it is very informative and tells you about Islam and I really liked how they put the definitions for some words that non-Muslims or new converts to Islam might not understand. The website also had a lot of maps which I found interesting and they are all at different time periods. unfortunately I only watched a couple minutes of the videos as I did not have time to watch the hour long documentary ,but I did like how they interviewed non-Muslims as well and historians too which I found interesting on how they view Islam. I also liked how the website talked about the different places Islam spread which I found intriguing.

  11. I did not have enough time to watch both documentaries, but I did look at the website. I looked at the website and the information looked correct and also they had many videos that can also help in learning new faiths and the historical information. I also liked that the information they have is set for the same curriculum that we use plus they have the information for 6 to 8 grade.

    1. This time I watched the second part of the documentary. I learned many things like that the bedouins held the deep Arab culture. Also that it was usually the poets of the tribe or clan that held the whole tribe together after wins or losses in feuds or wars. They also talked about the same thing that we have had learned in Islamic Studies and Social Studies.

  13. I found all these resources wonderful and accurate to the Islamic beliefs. I especially liked the video about Cordoba and Granada because I got to feel how great the Spanish influence was to this now booming country. I greatly appreciated how in most of the short clips there were no opinions or wrong interpretations of our religion, because in most documentaries about religions there is usually arrogance or wrong interpretations of the opposite religion. I also liked seeing the short clip about the differences between the Sunnis and the Shiites and what the political differences were and why they split into two sects in the first place.

  14. i only got to watch the first video because i had no time.

I found the video quite true and very useful. I liked the short clips in the documentary ,it was easy to understand. This made studying much easier. It was also remarkable because as I was listening to the narrator i found most of the things he said in the book. It also was complicated in vocab so I had to search up quite a few words.

  15. This video about Islam was very interesting because it shows how a Muslims acts and their basic beliefs, as well as the history that goes along with it. The video is both beneficial for both Muslims and non-Muslims. For non-Muslims it shows how a normal Muslims would act and their principles. For us, already being Muslims, it is important to see the rich history that come with this religion. The video expresses/captures the true essence of the religion; Islam.

  16. I only watched one video and I really liked it mostly because it started with the Athan. I found the website and the video very good and helpful for new Muslims. It has lots of information that was actually true. The video explains Islam very well, and I think that it would be great for non- Muslims that want to learn more about Islam. It could actually even be helpful for Muslims themselves because not all Muslims know every thing about Islam, and this would probably explain it very well to them. I noticed that there were many types of maps on the website, and I really liked that. I found these videos really good and I really liked them.

    1. Now that I've watched the other part, I realized that it is also very good, helpful, and really easy to understand. One reason that I think it is easy to understand is that the videos don't just say Muhammad (SWAT), they just say the prophet, or prophet Muhammad. I also realized that in the first video, it started out with the Athan, what it is, and what the Muslims name the person who calls for prayer, the Muathin, and the second video doesn't start with the athan, but around the ending, it ends with it. I looked over the website again, and I really liked how it gives you many videos that you can watch to learn more about the spread of Islam.

    2. I like the part with the adhan also. It's very beautiful and moving. There are many interesting things on this website that we can use all year long! You can also check on youtube.com for videos from the History Channel, Discovery Education, and PBS on these topics that are also very interesting.

  17. Sadly I didn't have enough time to watch the whole documentary. But from the bits and pieces I watched, I found it very informative and helpful to new Muslims, people interested in Islam, and even a Muslim. I liked how the professors just stated the truth and didn't add any ideas. Most of the information was correct. Though they could have worked a little more on the setting. The website with the maps was very informative. It had important vocabulary and it is a helpful, interactive tool to study with. The documentary went very deep into the beliefs of Islam.

  18. In order to get a true look on what Islam is, I most certainly recommend watching these documentaries. The documentaries discussed the prophet's life and basic beliefs in depth. Additionally, I noticed that the Golden Age of Islam was included in one of the documentaries and the influence of Islam on Spanish culture. Moreover, the videos gave a lot of credit to Muslims in the past for shaping various cultures with their architecture and new inventions.

  20. I watched this documentary on islam and I find it very interesting. This documentary showed many things about Islam such as the prophets life and everyday muslim beliefs. I learned a lot of stuff about golden age. I found this interesting because while other countries were having their own business, Islam was at the top of its game.
